The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

« Lazaro et el Tiburón: Une Plongée dans Cuba »
est un long métrage documentaire qui nous amène dans le monde des concours de congas du Carnaval de Santiago de Cuba, l'un des carnavals les plus pauvres du monde.
Lazaro, le leader de la Conga de Los Hoyos, est déterminé à remporter le prix très convoité décerné au quartier qui présente la Conga la plus spectaculaire. Comme les dirigeants de congas rivales, Lazaro doit se joindre à ses voisins et parcourir le marché strictement rationné pour trouver le matériel nécessaire afin de créer un spectacle à couper le souffle.
Le réalisateur William Sabourin O'Reilly, afrocubain originaire de La Havane, offre une fenêtre peu commune sur le Cuba communiste, un pays souvent romancé et presque toujours dépeint à travers les yeux d'un étranger.
William Sabourin O’Reilly est né à La Havane en 1972. Il s'installe à la Nouvelle-Orléans en 2000 pour intégrer le Collège des Beaux-Arts. Au cours des vingt dernières années, William a exercé de nombreuses fonctions dans l’audiovisuel à travers le monde et particulièrement à la Nouvelle-Orléans.
Pendant Katrina, William a produit et monté son court métrage de renommée nationale « Old Orleans » Une grande partie des images qu'il a capturées pendant la tempête et ses conséquences ont été diffusées à l'échelle internationale et utilisées dans divers documentaires comme « When The Levees Broke » de Spike Lee (pour The History Channel). Il a également remporté un National Geographic Special Emmy Award pour le documentaire « Witness Katrina ».
William Sabourin a également travaillé comme directeur de la photographie sur des émissions pour HBO, PBS et Telemundo. En 2006, il obtient une bourse de la ville de Paris pour travailler et vivre à la Cité Internationale des Arts. En 2009, il a travaillé sur le documentaire « One Last Shot », produit par l'acteur Forest Whitaker. En 2011, William a remporté le prix du meilleur court métrage documentaire au Festival du film de la Nouvelle-Orléans pour son film « Chasing Dreams ». En 2015, il a écrit et réalisé « Color Code, Memories », un documentaire sur les relations raciales dans son Cuba natal. « Lazaro et el Tiburón », un long métrage documentaire est son dernier film, il est sorti en 2022.

Lazaro and The Shark: Cuba Under the Surface is a feature documentary that brings us to the world of Conga Competitions in the Carnival of Santiago de Cuba — one of the poorest Carnival in the world.
Lazaro, the leader of the Conga de Los Hoyos, is determined to win the coveted award bestowed to the neighborhood that presents the most spectacular Conga. Like leaders of rival congas, Lazaro must join with his neighbors and scour the strictly rationed marketplace to find the necessary materials to create a show-stopping performance.
Director William Sabourin O'Reilly, an Afrocuban native to Havana, offers a rare window into communist Cuba, a country that is often romanticized, and almost always portrayed through the eyes of an outsider.
William Sabourin O’Reilly (Havana, Cuba 1972) He moved to New Orleans in 2000 to attend the College of Fine Arts. Over the last twenty years William has done a number of jobs around the world and particularly in New Orleans.
During Katrina, William produced and edited his nationally recognized short film Old Orleans. Much of the footage he captured during the storm and its aftermath has been broadcast internationally and used in various documentaries; The History Channel, Spike Lee's When The Levees Broke, among others. He also won a National Geographic Special Emmy Award for the documentary Witness Katrina.
Sabourin has also worked as a cinematographer on shows for HBO, PBS and Telemundo. In 2006 he won a scholarship from the city of Paris to work and live at the Cité International des Arts. In 2009 he worked on the documentary One Last Shot, executive produced by prominent actor Forest Whitaker. In 2011, William won an award for Best Documentary Short at the New Orleans Film Festival for his film Chasing Dreams. In 2015 he wrote and directed Color Code, Memories, a documentary about race relations in his native Cuba.
Lazaro and the Shark, is his new documentary feature film, which has been released in 2022.
