The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

Le St. Barth Film Festival fut créé en 1996, l’idée étant de permettre à cette île et sa population de découvrir la richesse de la culture caraïbe dans son sens le plus large, à travers son cinéma. Le succès de la première édition a motivé son développement en un rendez-vous annuel. Depuis, le festival a confirmé son important rôle de lieu de présentation du “Cinéma Caraïbe”. A présent un événement établi dans le calendrier culturel de l’île, le festival est reconnu comme lieu de rencontres et d’échanges cinématographiques où les cinéastes peuvent projeter et montrer leurs films ainsi que discuter de leur travail.
A côté des projections le soir à l’A.J.O.E. à Lorient, sur la plage de Flamands ou sur les quais, et les séances des moyens-métrages dans les après-midis, le St. Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbe” organise aussi des rencontres et ateliers cinéma dans les écoles et le collège de l’île. A cette occasion, réalisateurs et professionnels du cinéma font découvrir aux jeunes le cinéma, comme carrière et outil d’expression culturelle. Le festival présentera aussi son annuelle table ronde sur le Cinéma Caribéen à laquelle participeront les différents invités, professionnels de l’audiovisuel, et qui sera ouverte à tous.
Le St Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” est organisé par Ellen Lampert-Gréaux, Joshua Harrison, Rosemond Gréaux, et Sophie Maupoil dans le cadre de l’Association Ciné St Barth avec le soutien de la Collectivité de Saint Barthélemy, la DAC de Guadeloupe (Direction des Affaires Culturelles, Ministère de la Culture), le Sénateur Michel Magras sur sa réserve parlementaire, et le Comité Territorial de Tourisme de l'île de Saint Barthélemy ainsi que d’autres organisations culturelles de l’île. De nombreux hôtels, restaurants et entreprises de l’île, partenaires depuis le tout début, continuent à contribuer à l’organisation du festival.
The St. Barth Film Festival was launched in 1996, allowing the island to open its doors to the cultural richness of the Caribbean by way of its cinema. The success of the first festival encouraged its growth into an annual event, with the subsequent years of the festival confirmed the role of Cinéma Caraïbes as an important showcase for Caribbean cinema. Now an established event on the island’s cultural calendar, the festival has put Saint Barth on the map as a meeting place for regional and international filmmakers to come together to screen and discuss their work.
In addition to the films screened at A.J.O.E. in Lorient, on the beach in Flamands, or on the dock in Gustavia, the St. Barth Film Festival also organizes film-in-the-schools programs in which filmmakers work with the island’s students to help them discover filmmaking as both a career option and a tool of cultural expression. The festival also hosts an annual round-table discussion on Caribbean Cinema and afternoon video screenings, open free to the public. All films and videos in the festival are presented in their original language and sub-titled in French.
Cinéma Caraïbe is organized by Ellen Lampert-Gréaux, Joshua Harrison, Rosemond Gréaux, and Sophie Maupoil under the auspices of the non-profit French association, Ciné Saint Barth along with the generous support of the Collectivity of St. Barthélemy, the DAC in Guadeloupe (Cultural Affairs Office of the French Ministry of Culture, A.J.O.E., Ciné Woulé, and the St. Barth Tourist Office, as well as other cultural organizations in St. Barth. Numerous island hotels, restaurants and businesses have been among the local sponsors since the festival was launched in 1996.
