The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

La Sirène et le Chevalier… ça pourrait être le titre d’un conte de fée. Il était une fois … une sirène nordique à la voix d’ange, uncompositeur né en Guadeloupe au temps de l’esclavage et un chef d’orchestre à la baguette d’or.
De Stockholm à New York, de la Guadeloupe à Cuba, de l’Opéra au Gwo Ka, une aventure culturelle qui nous parle de musique, bien sûr, mais aussi d’une injustice sociale qui a traversé le temps.
Elle nous parle de passion partagée, de vision, et … d’humanité.
Originaire de Trinidad, Steve James est un artiste aux multiples talents, qu’il conjugue dans les domaines de la musique et de l’audiovisuel. D’abord musicien et auteur/compositeur à succès, il devient ingénieur du son avant de se passionner pour l’image et de devenir cadreur, monteur et réalisateur.
En plus d’une série de 144 portraits de femmes caribéennes tournés dans le monde entier (F comme Femme), ses documentaires, réalisés notamment à Cuba (Le Mozart noir à Cuba et Almendron mi Corazon), au Brésil (Fan do Brasil), à la Martinique, (Jusqu’à ce que la mort nous sépare) en Haïti (Carifesta et Coeur d’Ayiti) et au Bénin (Le Gardien du Non Retour), ont été présentés avec succès dans de nombreux festivals internationaux, remporté plusieurs prix et été largement diffusés à la télévision, sur les chaines 1ères de France Télévisions, France Ô, Planète + C&I, TV5 et plusieurs réseaux caribéens (Carib Vision, One Caribbean Channel…). En 2023 il a réalisé le documentaire, Obésité, l'insoutenable quête de légèreté.

The Siren and the Knight… it could be the title of a fairy tale. Once upon a time… there was a Nordic siren with the voice of an angel, a composer born in Guadeloupe during the era of slavery, and a conductor with a golden baton.
From Stockholm to New York, from Guadeloupe to Cuba, from opera to Gwo Ka—a cultural adventure that speaks to us of music, of course, but also of a social injustice that has endured through time.
It speaks to us of shared passion, of vision, and…
of humanity.
Originally from Trinidad, Steve James is a multi-talented artist who combines his talents in the fields of music and audiovisual. First a successful musician and author/composer, he became a sound engineer before becoming a cameraman, editor and director.
In addition to a series of 144 portraits of Caribbean women filmed around the world (F Comme Femme), his documentaries were shot in Cuba (The Black Mozart in Cuba and Almendron mi Corazon), Brazil (Fan do Brasil), Martinique, (Till Death Do Us Part), Haiti (Carifesta and Coeur d'Ayiti) and Benin (The Guardian of No Return), and have been presented with success in many international festivals, won several awards, and have been widely broadcast on television, on France Television, France Ô, Planète + C&I, TV5, and several Caribbean networks (Carib Vision, One Caribbean Channel... ). In 2023 he directed the documentary, Obesity, The Unbearable Quest for Lightness.
