Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story célèbre les 50 ans d'existence du fameux Festival Jazz & Heritage de La Nouvelle-Orléans, un événement annuel mettant en valeur la culture, la cuisine et la musique colorées de « Big Easy » (surnom donné à la ville louisianaise).

 

Pour son seul volet musical, l'événement offre aussi la part belle à d'autres genres cousins du jazz comme la soul, la pop, le funk,le gospel, le blues ou le R&B. Le film compile et combine entrevues, images d'archives et captations de performances d'artistes majeurs.

 

Parmi la cinquantaine d'artistes présentés figurent Jimmy Buffett, Pitbull, Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Aaron Neville, The Marsalis Family, Earth, Wind & Fire, Irma Thomas, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Samantha Fish, Herbie Hancock, Al Green, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, Tom Jones, Gary Clark Jr. et bien d'autres encore.

 

Le film ne se contente pas de capturer le festival dans toute sa beauté et sa gloire, il plonge également au cœur de la riche culture of the
« Big Easy ».

Frank Wilton Marshall (né le 13 septembre 1946) est un producteur et réalisateur de films américains. Il collabore souvent avec sa femme, la productrice Kathleen Kennedy, avec laquelle il a fondé la société de production Amblin Entertainment, aux côtés de Steven Spielberg.

 

En 1991, il fonde avec sa femme la Kennedy/Marshall Company, une société de production cinématographique qui a un contrat avec Amblin Partners. Depuis mai 2012, lorsque Kennedy est devenu président de Lucasfilm, Marshall est le seul directeur de Kennedy/Marshall.

 

Marshall a travaillé avec des réalisateurs tels que Spielberg, Paul Greengrass, Peter Bogdanovich, David Fincher, M. Night Shyamalan et Robert Zemeckis. Il a également réalisé les films Arachnophobia (1990), Alive (1993), Congo (1995), Eight Below (2006) et le documentaire The Bee Gees : How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020).

Marshall a produit plusieurs franchises cinématographiques à succès, dont Indiana Jones, Retour vers le futur et Bourne, et a reçu cinq nominations pour l'Oscar du meilleur film. Il a également reçu le Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, décerné par l'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aux "producteurs créatifs dont l'œuvre reflète une qualité élevée et constante dans la production cinématographique", le David O. Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story weaves together live performances and interviews from the 50th anniversary of The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the signature annual music and cultural event of the city with hundreds of thousands of attendees each year.

 

The New Orleans 'Jazz Fest' celebrates the music, food, people, arts & crafts, and culture of all of Louisiana since 1970, and is an essential showcase of the rich heritage of the region. The film, shot at the 2019 Fest, features local music heroes joined on 14 stages by some of the biggest names in the music industry, and a wealth of archival documentary footage from the past half century.

 

Among the 50+ featured performers are Jimmy Buffett, Pitbull, Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Aaron Neville, The Marsalis Family, Earth, Wind & Fire, Irma Thomas, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Samantha Fish, Herbie Hancock, Al Green, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, Tom Jones, Gary Clark, Jr., and many others.

Frank Wilton Marshall (born September 13, 1946) is an American film producer and director.
He often collaborates with his wife, film producer Kathleen Kennedy, with whom he founded the production company Amblin Entertainment, along with Steven Spielberg.

 

In 1991, he founded, with Kennedy, The Kennedy/Marshall Company, a film production company which has a contract with Amblin Partners. Since May 2012, with Kennedy taking on the role of President of Lucasfilm, Marshall has been Kennedy/Marshall's sole principal.

 

Marshall has worked with directors such as Spielberg, Paul Greengrass, Peter Bogdanovich, David Fincher, M. Night Shyamalan, and Robert Zemeckis. He has also directed the films Arachnophobia (1990), Alive (1993), Congo (1995), Eight Below (2006), and the documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020).

Marshall has produced various successful film franchises, including Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Bourne and has received five nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture. His other accolades include the Irving G.
