The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

Discovering Bessie Coleman est un documentaire inspirant qui célèbre l'impact de l'héritage de Bessie Coleman à travers les yeux de ceux qu'elle continue d'inspirer.
Plutôt qu'un récit biographique, le film présente des histoires personnelles de la famille de Coleman, de professionnels de l'aviation et de célébrités comme l'auteur et actrice Karyn Parsons, qui racontent comment ils ont appris pour la première fois les réalisations révolutionnaires de Coleman en tant que première femme afro-américaine et amérindienne à obtenir une licence de pilote international.
Malgré ses réalisations, l'histoire de Coleman reste méconnue de beaucoup. Ce documentaire met en lumière le pouvoir de transformation de son parcours, en montrant comment sa détermination à surmonter les obstacles continue à motiver et à responsabiliser les nouvelles générations dans le domaine de l'aviation et au-delà.
La capitaine Beth Powell, pionnière de l'aviation, fondatrice de Queen B Production LLC et réalisatrice de ce documentaire, a également publié une biographie de Bessie Coleman intitulée « Queen of the Skies » en collaboration avec sa famille.
Mme Powell, qui est entrée dans l'histoire en 2022 lorsqu'elle a dirigé un équipage de vol composé uniquement de femmes noires en tant que commandant de bord d'une compagnie aérienne commerciale, est honorée de partager l'histoire marquante de Bessie Coleman, qui met en lumière ses réalisations et inspire la prochaine génération de pilotes.

Discovering Bessie Coleman is an inspiring documentary that celebrates the impact of Bessie Coleman's legacy through the eyes of those she continues to inspire.
Rather than a biographical account, the film shares personal stories from Coleman's family, aviation professionals, and celebrities like author and actress Karyn Parsons, recounting how they first learned about Coleman's groundbreaking achievements as the first African-American and Native American woman to earn an international pilot's license.
Despite her accomplishments, Coleman's story remains unfamiliar to many. This documentary highlights the transformative power of her journey, showcasing how her determination to overcome barriers continues to motivate and empower new generations in aviation and beyond.
Captain Beth Powell, aviation pioneer, founder of Queen B Production LLC and director of this documentary, has also published a biography of Bessie Coleman entitled “Queen of the Skies” in collaboration with her family.
Powell, who made history in 2022 when she led an all-black female flight crew as captain of a commercial airline, is honored to share Bessie Coleman's landmark story, highlighting her achievements and inspiring the next generation of pilots.
