The St. Barth Festival of Caribbean Cinema (Cinéma Caraïbe) celebrates its 15th season April 24-30, 2010 on the island of St. Barthélemy in the French West Indies. This fourteenth edition of the festival once again offers the population of St. Barthélemy the chance to discover films and filmmakers of the Caribbean basin, as well as thought-provoking international films. Festival guests include filmmakers, producers and cinematographers, and scholars, as well as cinema professionals from around the world who have a strong interest in Caribbean film and culture.

This year we will present a special focus on Haiti, beginning with a Haitian evening featuring a series of documentaries and first hand reporting on the recent earthquake last January 12. We are especially proud to present works from the Ciné Institute de Jacmel presented by students from that school. We conclude our Haitian program with a round table on current issues in Haiti and a special presentation of Moloch Tropical, Raoul Peck’s powerful new film about the decline and final days of a (fictional) Haitian President.

Continuing another tradition, we are working once again with Jean-Marc Césaire, of Ciné Woulé, to bring cinema to the beach. Given our past success with outdoor beach screenings, this year we will be on the sand twice. On Tuesday evening we will show Araya, a classic neo-realist drama from the noted Venezuelan director, Margot Benacerraf. Reprising our success in the past two years, we will hold our closing night screening on the open sands of Flamands beach as well.

The third special feature of this year’s festival is our presentation of selections from the Third Traveling Exhibition of Caribbean Cinema. This year, this exhibition once again comprises an array of extraordinary films from various Caribbean countries and cultures.

Le St Barth Film Festival (Cinéma Caraïbes) fête cette année sa 15ème édition, du 24 au 30 avril 2010, sur l’île de St. Barthélemy, Antilles françaises. Cette quinzième édition du festival offre une fois encore à la population de St. Barthélemy et des îles environnantes l’opportunité de découvrir des films et réalisateurs du bassin caribéen ainsi que des films internationaux, en rapport plus ou moins lointain avec la culture caraïbe. Les invités du festival sont des réalisateurs, producteurs, des professionnels du cinéma du monde entier ayant pour intérêt premier la culture caribéenne et son cinéma.

Cette année, Hommage à Haïti, avec tout d’abord une soirée haïtienne présentant des films documentaires sur le récent tremblement de terre du 12 janvier. Nous sommes fiers de présenter le travail d’élèves du Ciné Institute de Jacmel, école de cinéma sinistrée lors du terrible événement. Nous conclurons notre programme haïtien avec une table ronde sur les problèmes actuels en Haïti et une présentation spéciale de Moloch Tropical, le nouveau film de Raoul Peck sur le déclin et les derniers jours d’un président haïtien (fictionnel).

Continuant une autre tradition, nous collaborerons à nouveau avec Jean-Marc Césaire de Ciné Woulé, afin d’amener le cinéma a la plage. Vu les succès remportés par nos projections sur la plage, cette année nous y serons deux fois. Mardi soir, nous présenterons Araya, un classique drame neo-réaliste de la réalisatrice vénézuélienne Margot Benacerraf. Et notre nuit de clôture se fera sur la plage de Flamands avec la projection de vidéos.

Cette année encore, nous sommes heureux de pouvoir présenter une sélection de films issus de la 3ème Présentation Itinérante du Cinéma de la Caraïbe, initiative sponsorisée par l’UNESCO avec le soutien de l’Institut Cubain de l’Art et de l’Industrie Cinématographique (ICAIC) en collaboration avec la Communauté Caribéenne (CARICOM).
